Pup & Mimi Report on Norco's Horse Week Parade PDF Print E-mail

Draft horses at Norco's Horse Week Parade 2009Horses, horses, and more horses!! Just what the ideal parade should be! Best of all, we got to see it twice. When they marched by on their way to the park and on their way home, coming back down hill. Pup thought it was pretty dumb for “big dogs” to be pulling carts -- on the other hand, those miniature horses probably thought she was pretty dumb for not being able to.

The big black Friesians were exceptionally regal. The vision of my three-year-old great-grandson standing out there by himself, waving at everyone like a pro! And then the Mariachis arrived with their horses and riders putting on a show, just for us, in the Pesada Espaniola or Paso Doble fashion.

It was a “Dancing with the Stars” competition, with each horse and rider outdoing the one before!! And, by twos and threes they were dancing together – prancing and side stepping and twirling! A beautiful sight to see and one I’m sure none of us will ever forget!

All afternoon I could hear the Mariachi band playing somewhere else in town the music carrying to my horse. Every time Pup heard the music, she would look up and down the street for the dancing horses, and more parade -- disappointed there was no more to see.

I’ll be looking forward to once again seeing the enthusiastic Mariachis and Charros.
