The Inland Empire Branch of the California Writers Club meets the fourth Saturday of every month at Borders Bookstore in Montclair from 10:15 to 12:00 noon.

What exactly is the California Writers Club?  Even after visiting our website, http://www.angelfire.com/amiga/iecwc, I’m often asked that question by interested writers.  The website introduces you to our members and our projects, but you have to attend one of our meetings to get a feeling for the wonderful camaraderie of this group of gifted and committed writers.

The first forty-five minutes of every meeting covers club business.  We are involved in several projects.  In the spring, a $300 scholarship is awarded to a local college student.  A writing contest, offering cash prizes, is open to the public each fall.

Every other month we have a speaker.  Most are published authors (fiction, non-fiction, poetry) who understand first-hand the modern publishing world.  Besides discussing their latest book, they answer questions about writing and their publishing experiences.  Consequently, the presentations are both interesting and educational.

On alternate meetings, members share what has happened with their writing over the past month—the successes and the rejection letters—the ups and the downs of marketing.  We also write to a prompt.  Some excellent articles and poetry have come from these prompts and often appear in Fresh Ink, our monthly on-line publication.  Although many members are published authors, this is not a prerequisite to join the group.  Writing is a solitary venture, so it can be very satisfying to meet with others who share your love of writing.
